Kojima Market Design Project, Exploratory Research for Advanced Technology (ERATO), Japan Science and Technology Agency (JST) invites applications for post-doctoral positions at Kyushu University and Keio University.

Post-doctoral position: ERATO Kojima Market Design Project

THE PROJECT:
Kojima Market Design Project (https://www.jst.go.jp/erato/en/brochure/erato_en_pamph.pdf, principle investigator: Fuhito Kojima, the University of Tokyo, https://sites.google.com/site/fuhitokojimaeconomics/Fuhito-Kojima), is funded by Exploratory Research for Advanced Technology (ERATO), Japan Science and Technology Agency (JST).
This project deals with market design, i.e., scientifically developing mechanisms to allocate precious resources appropriately based on technologies from game theory and microeconomics. This project is carried out by an interdisciplinary research team, including the computer science group (group leader: Makoto Yokoo, Kyushu University, https://sites.google.com/view/makoto-yokoo/), and the discrete mathematics team (group leader: Akihisa Tamura, Keio University, https://opt.math.keio.ac.jp/aki-tamura/).
These two groups are now hiring a few postdoctoral research fellows.
The group assignment will be decided based on the expertise and future research direction of the applicant through the discussion at the interview.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
The ideal candidate will have a PhD in a relevant discipline and established track record evident by publication in top-quality conferences and/or journals.
Expertise in one or more of the following areas is a must: game theory and economic paradigms, market/mechanism design, computational social choice, machine learning, multiagent systems, discrete mathematics, and combinatorial optimization.

PACKAGE:
The successful candidate will be employed by one of the following universities: Kyushu University and Keio University in Japan. Gross salary per year (including taxes, insurances, and other things) will be about 6 million yen (about US$40,000).
Due to the current exchange rate, the living cost in Japan is much lower than in most of other countries. The exact amount will be decided in accordance with the employment regulations of each university, the successful applicant’s past accomplishments, etc.
The start date will be April 1, 2024 (Negotiable) and the end date is March 31, 2025, which can be extended based on mutual agreement. The project will terminate on March 31, 2029.

SUBMISSION:
The application process will remain open until the position is filled by a suitable candidate.

(1) Academic CV, including names and contact details of 2 referees.
(2) A 2-page summary of the candidate’s current/past research and a research vision statement in the project.
(3) At most five “representative papers” describing the applicant’s research.
If possible, please also include a link to a website with an online version of your PhD thesis and relevant publications (e.g., your professional homepage).
