THE PROJECT

This project is funded by Grants-in-Aid for Scientific Research, Japan Society for the Promotion of Science. This project will develop mechanisms to allocate precious resources appropriately based on technologies from micro economics and computer science, and implement these mechanisms in real application domains, such as Japanese daycare (nursery school) allocation. This project is carried out by an interdisciplinary research team that consists of leading Japanese researchers in micro economies, computer science, artificial intelligence, and data science. Specific research topics include automated mechanism design, mechanism design for two-sided matching and auctions, etc.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS

The ideal candidate will have a PhD in a relevant discipline and established track record evident by publication in top quality conferences and/or journals. Expertise in one or more of the following areas is a must: game theory and economic paradigms, market/mechanism design, computational social choice, human-aware AI, machine learning applications, heuristic search and optimization, and multiagent systems.

PACKAGE

The successful candidate will be employed by one of the following universities: University of Tokyo, Kyoto University, or Kyushu University, in Japan, and will visit and collaborate with other
investigators. Gross salary per year (including taxes, insurances, and other things) will be around US$40,000. The exact amount will be decided in accordance with the employment regulations of each university, the successful applicant’s past accomplishments, etc.
The start date will November 1, 2021 (Negotiable) and the end date is March 31, 2022, which can be extended based on mutual agreement.
